Beginners
These classes are 45 minutes long, one class per week. We focus on the basic technique of soft shoe dancing and the first soft shoes dances with fun exercises to aid learning. Interested pupils do not require the academy uniform till they have completed two terms with the academy; however we suggest after one term that shoes (pumps) should be purchased if the pupil wishes to continue. Parents are allowed in the class to view during your child's first term of dancing, but no parents are allowed in classes after this time. Beginners can then choose to progress into competition or social/non-competitive classes.
Non-competitive Dancers
Non-competitive dancers do not compete in competitions against other dancing schools on a regional and national level. Non-competitive dancers complete one class per week with the World and New Zealand Irish dancing syllabus taught progressing from soft shoe to hard shoe.
All of our dancers have two "Academy" competitions per year to compete and work towards and participation in our End of Year Show.
Competitive Dancers
After one year of beginners, dancers can chose to become a competitive dancer. To do so, dancers must attend two classes per week to reach a suitable standard for competition. The focus is to improve technique and progress through the ranges of dances and aim to compete in regional, national and international competitions. Competitive dancers also compete in our "Academy" competitions and the End of Year Show.
